What would be the best dell server file and Printer server for the price and 10 users?
I want to run xp on it because the old one ran on xp is there a program that helps with transfering the files from the old server to the new server too if anyone knows.
Almost any desktop or rackmount that Dell sells these days. A 1.8GHz single core CPU and 1GB of RAM would probably be enough – that’s a very light use for a file and print server. 2GB of RAM would definitely be enough. Add 2 Ethernet cards (for redundancy – use 1, but you can switch to the other fast if the first one fails) and you’re done. Don’t let them sell you on a big box – you don’t need it for that application. (Run it on Linux and your requirements go down, it’s cheaper, it’s much more solid and copying the files is just as easy.)
